STUDENT MINISTRIES YOUNG
S.M.Y.L.E. — which stands for Student Ministries Young Leaders Empowerment — is a discipleship and leadership-focused program for students from grades 3-12. This next semester however, our middle school and high school students will not be meeting and S.M.Y.L.E. nights for them will resume on Wednesday, August 13th. Our goal is to empower students to grow in Godly character and uncover their God-given talents and abilities through teaching and hands-on training. Students will also be encouraged to work on character and life skills. Working on things like their thinking, their habits, and their mood, and helping them to see how they can think critically about these things and ultimately take control of them. We know that the Bible is rich in teaching about all aspects of our lives, and we want our young leaders to know exactly how to apply those things.
For the weeks we aren’t meeting, this is where we team up as parent/guardian(s) and leaders. We know that we only sow into students’ lives for a small percentage of their week — whether that be a Sunday morning, Friday night, and now a S.M.Y.L.E night — but your voice and example in their lives have a far-reaching impact and we’re not here to take that influence from you but amplify it. Students will have assignments and goals to accomplish and they will need all of our help. We as leaders will do our part by encouraging their reading and proactivity but we need your help with that.
We are asking that you participate in a minimum of 3 ways:
1. Engage
Ask them what they’re learning at S.M.Y.L.E. and in their application of what is being learned. At times, even join them if you can.
2. Encourage
Remind them of who they are In Christ and of the commitment they are choosing to make and the standard they are choosing to follow by being a S.M.Y.L.E. leader.
3. Ensure
Ensure that students are commuted to and from S.M.Y.L.E. on meeting nights — their attendance is paramount to the effectiveness of this program — as well as ensuring their work is completed during the weeks we are not meeting.
We are so excited to begin this journey with you and our future S.M.Y.L.E. leaders. We ask that you prayerfully and thoughtfully consider this program with your student(s). We have a commission from Jesus to make disciples of all nations (Matt. 28:19), and that starts right here in our city, our church, and in our homes.
Cost: $100 per student
2 or more in household: $80 per student
3 or more in household: $70 per student
This is the cost for one year. Cost covers curriculum materials, food provided on S.M.Y.L.E nights, awards, merchandise, and more.
Spring applicants can sign up now!
